Hi. Im 17, joining the army soon and going to ship to basic training after i finish high school - at around July/2010. Right now, Im getting a car, liability insurance only. So ill need insurance for the car for 8 months before i ship. Im going to be away for 6 months for basic and advanced training. 6 months of paying insurance would cost be around 1300$. Seems a waste to pay if im not even driving it while im away. Would i be able to tell my insurance company to temporarily discontinue insurance when im away? Or if i cancel the policy, does the RI DMV request the plates? If not, i could keep it on the street while im away. If they do request the plates, what should i do? I mean i would have to pay taxes on it all over again, pay for insurance downpayment, then registration fees which is all over like 1000$. What could i do in my situation?

But when it asks for the period of licence held for I put 0 years as I passed my test in July but my car was insured in my name from january when I was on a provisional. I let my mom borrow my car, which insurance is under my name, she crashes. She exchanged insurance info with the other driver. I called the other driver's insurance to make a claim to have them get my car fixed. As soon as I told the insurance rep what had happened, he hung up. I try calling them again only to have the rep say, we need to get the other driver's side of the story and hung up again. Seven weeks ago i got into a very bad car accident on the freeway. I wasn't driving the car and this guy had no license or any kind of insurance whatsoever. He was also under 21 if that helps and no I didn't report the car stolen. But when the cops questioned him he just told them he took the car.

I got a 87 mustang and a truck hit my front bumper. I made a report and i need to wait about for days to pick up the report at the police station. I had a Stalker front bumper by the way. Can you resume your auto insurance policy one it was canceled? ok it was canceled 5 months ago I wasn't using the car so I didn't need insurance at a moment. Now I am planning on using the car again. Can I just call them and ask them to send me a monthly fee and get insurance resumed or do I need to go to insurance place and talk to Insurance sales agent and pay $200 finders fee again? I have no wrecks tickets or anything on my record for driving a car. I want a motorcycle because they are cool and get like 2-3 times better gas mileage then my car. Lying to insurance driving record?
It's time to renew my insurance. In the quote I got in the mail, they didn't include the speeding violation that I got back in July 2009. If I tell them about it it would bring the premium up of about 120 dollars. I'm debating if I should tell them or not. After all it's their job to prepare the quote and check driving records. I have a few unregistered cars in a garage- one is a show car that I trailer to shows, 2 are just cars I love but I dont drive, and 1 is a race car I occaisonally race. These cars are covered by insurance when I trailer them (add-on policy to trailer insurance), and the race car is covered when i race it (Race insurance with the group I work with)... however, I realize none of them are insured while they sit in my garage against damage or theft. Will car insurance be cheaper if I drive my mum's car?
I'm learning to drive, but my mum won't allow me to practice in her Fiat 500 or drive it once I've passed the test. This means I can either buy myself a car or drive my Dad's car, which is a much larger Jeep. I don't particularly want to drive it though because its an automatic whereas I'm learning manual (I know automatic is easier, but as a new driver I won't be able to practice for the test and I'm worried I might forget manual if I drive it for too long) and I imagine insurance is likely to be higher. I was wondering, which of these options are likely to work out cheapest? Is it worth trying to persuade my mum to let me drive her car?

Hi. Im 17, joining the army soon and going to ship to basic training after i finish high school - at around July/2010. Right now, Im getting a car, liability insurance only. So ill need insurance for the car for 8 months before i ship. Im going to be away for 6 months for basic and advanced training. 6 months of paying insurance would cost be around 1300$. Seems a waste to pay if im not even driving it while im away. Would i be able to tell my insurance company to temporarily discontinue insurance when im away? Or if i cancel the policy, does the RI DMV request the plates? If not, i could keep it on the street while im away. If they do request the plates, what should i do? I mean i would have to pay taxes on it all over again, pay for insurance downpayment, then registration fees which is all over like 1000$. What could i do in my situation?
